Welcome to

Wirral Bikeathon

Sunday 21 June 2015

A huge ‘Thank you’ to all our riders, supporters, friends and volunteers who made the 17th Annual Wirral Bikeathon, held on Sunday 21 June, this year another great event.

Around 1400 riders adults and children registered to take part who pledged a fantastic £52,000 in sponsorship! This is a magnificent sum and will bring the total raised to over £800,000 since we organised our first Bikeathon in 1999.

Wirral Bikeathon 2015

This years Bikeathon was held on Sunday 21st June 2015.

Another fantastic event and even the weather was reasonably kind to us all (apart from the wind!). We were delighted to welcome many regulars amongst the entrants as well as a range of less common cycling machines: the hand cyclists, reclining cycles, and the amazing team of unicycles. We hope you all enjoyed the day.

The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Les Rowlands, and Paula Rowlands, the Mayoress, were there to start the event in the company of Chris Boardman, our local Patron, and to encourage the entrants on their way through Arrowe Country Park towards Caldy, the Wirral Way and the first 14 mile section of the 28 mile route.

Back at Arrowe Country Park, in the start, mid-point and finish area, riders were treated to cold drinks or hot refreshments were available thanks to the Red Room Cafe while enjoying the lively music of the Peninsula Jazzmen followed by the Wirral Ukulele Fanatics.

Thanks also go to The Moreton Bike Shop and K-Cycles of Eastham who continue to support us by providing bike repair services in the park and at Dovepoint on the prom in Meols. See below for the many other organizations who we also wish to thank profusely for their valuable support.

All our riders were entered into a prize draw to win a Chris Boardman bike, presented by Chris himself. The delighted winner of the draw for a Boardman Bike was Mr Ian Evans, rider no. 449, and Chris Boardman was there to give him advice on a choice of bike.

The winners of the 2-week family gym membership for Total Fitness was No 505, Mrs Liz Levell.
